Rivian officially revealed R2 pricing and trim levels on March 12, 2026, with the Performance Launch Edition starting at $57,990 and the base Standard trim at $45,000. Deliveries begin this spring.
Rivian officially confirmed R2 pricing and specifications on March 12, 2026, answering the question that has defined the company’s narrative since the R2’s unveiling in early 2024. The mid-size electric SUV will start at $45,000 (before destination charges) in Standard trim, with the range-topping R2 Performance Launch Edition priced at $57,990. Deliveries begin this spring.
Full Pricing and Trims
| Trim | Drivetrain | Est. Range | Starting Price |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | RWD | 270 mi | $45,000 |
| Standard+ | RWD (large battery) | 310 mi | $48,490 |
| Premium | AWD (dual motor) | 285 mi | $53,990 |
| Performance Launch Edition | AWD (dual motor, launch tune) | 290 mi | $57,990 |
All prices are before the $1,395 destination charge.
The Standard and Standard+ trims are rear-wheel drive — a notable choice that Rav4 Hybrid and IONIQ 5 buyers will recognize as the most efficient configuration. The dual-motor AWD is standard on Performance and optional on Premium.
Range and Battery
Rivian has not yet received EPA estimates for the R2, but internal estimates provided to reservation holders suggest the following:
- Standard (smaller battery): approximately 250-270 miles
- Standard+ (large battery, RWD): approximately 300-310 miles
- Premium (large battery, AWD): approximately 285 miles
- Performance LE (large battery, AWD, sport tune): approximately 285-290 miles
The R2 uses the same NACS charging port as other Rivian vehicles and supports charging at Tesla Superchargers without an adapter. Peak DC fast charging speed is 220 kW — lower than the 350 kW possible on 800V vehicles like the Hyundai IONIQ 5 and Kia EV6, but competitive with the Model Y’s 250 kW.
How It Stacks Up
The R2 enters a fiercely competitive mid-size electric SUV segment:
- Tesla Model Y Long Range: $47,990, 330 miles, AWD
- Hyundai IONIQ 5: $41,995, 245 miles (RWD), AWD available
- Kia EV6: $42,995, 240 miles (RWD)
- Ford Mustang Mach-E Extended Range: $47,495, 310 miles, AWD available
- Toyota bZ4X: $39,995, 252 miles, AWD available
The R2 is competitively priced against the Model Y and Mach-E, and its range — particularly in the Standard+ configuration — is genuinely competitive. The Model Y still leads in pure range and Supercharger network quality, but the R2’s adventure positioning, standard air suspension on higher trims, and more conventional ownership model (Rivian finally has a nationwide service network, via its own service centers) offer a different value proposition.
The Performance Launch Edition
The $57,990 Performance Launch Edition is the one Rivian will use to generate headlines and drive enthusiast interest. It comes with:
- Dual-motor AWD (656 hp, 609 lb-ft torque)
- 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds
- Adaptive air suspension (standard)
- 22-inch sport wheels
- Launch Edition exterior trim and badging
- Priority delivery (first production slots)
The Launch Edition is clearly aimed at the enthusiast buyer who wanted an R1S but couldn’t justify $90,000. Whether Rivian can convert that aspiration into volume at $45,000-53,990 remains to be seen.
