Best EV Trucks Comparison 2026: F-150 Lightning vs Rivian R1T vs Silverado EV
The electric pickup truck market is heating up. We put the Ford F-150 Lightning, Rivian R1T, and Chevrolet Silverado EV head-to-head to find the best electric truck for 2026.
The electric pickup truck market has gone from barren to competitive in 18 months. Three serious contenders now occupy the segment: the Ford F-150 Lightning, the Rivian R1T, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV. We drove all three back-to-back over two weeks, covering approximately 1,500 miles in mixed conditions. Here is the definitive comparison.

On the Road
Rivian R1T: The R1T is the sports car of electric trucks. The quad-motor system delivers genuinely stunning performance — 0-60 in 3.0 seconds makes this faster than most sports cars. The chassis is tight and well-balanced, with remarkable body control for a truck. The one-pedal driving mode is perfectly calibrated. The truck feels purpose-built rather than adapted.
F-150 Lightning: The Lightning is the most conventional feeling of the three. It drives like a well-sorted F-150 with the Instant Torque Enhancement of electric motors. The ride quality is excellent — Ford tuned the independent rear suspension specifically for the Lightning, and it shows. It’s the best-riding full-size truck of the three.
Silverado EV: The Silverado EV shares its platform with the Hummer EV and uses a similar architecture to the Rivian (purpose-built for electric). The driving experience is good but not exceptional — the truck is heavy and the steering feel is less engaging than the R1T or Lightning.
Off-Road
The Rivian R1T wins here decisively. The quad-motor system with individual wheel torque vectoring gives it genuine rock-crawling capability that the other two can’t match. The air suspension (standard on Performance, optional on Adventure) provides 8.7 inches of ground clearance in Off-Road mode. The other two trucks are capable but not designed for serious off-road use.
Practicality
Bed and Towing: The Silverado EV’s 10-foot bed (on the Crew Cab configuration) gives it a major practicality advantage over the Lightning (5.5 feet) and R1T (4.5 feet). If you need to carry full sheets of plywood or tow heavy loads regularly, the Silverado EV is the clear choice.
Cabin: All three trucks have genuinely usable rear seats and competitive interior technology. The Silverado EV’s cabin is the most truck-like (utilitarian, well-built but not luxurious). The R1T has the most refined interior. The Lightning shares the updated F-150 interior with the latest gas models.
The Winner
Best Overall: The Rivian R1T for buyers who want the best driving experience and don’t need maximum bed length or towing.
Best for Work: The Chevrolet Silverado EV for buyers who need the bed length and maximum towing capability.
Best Value: The Ford F-150 Lightning for buyers who want an electric truck at the lowest price point and primarily drive, not tow.
