Ram 1500 REV: America's Electric Truck Revolution Is Here
Ram's first fully electric pickup brings serious capability, 500 miles of range, and a cabin that redefines what a truck can be.
The Ram 1500 REV isn’t just an electric version of a familiar truck — it’s a ground-up rethinking of what a full-size pickup can deliver. Arriving in early 2026, the REV marks Ram’s most serious entry yet into the EV truck space, and it’s making Ford, Chevrolet, and Tesla take notice.
What Ram Got Right
Where some EV trucks feel like converted gas vehicles, Ram went back to the drawing board. The REV rides on a new STLA Frame architecture designed specifically for large electric vehicles, with the battery integrated into the chassis structure. The result is a lower center of gravity than the gas 1500 — which translates directly into sharper handling and reduced body roll when you’re hauling or towing.
The Range That Changes Everything
The headline number is 500 miles of EPA-estimated range on the top-tier 229 kWh battery pack. That’s not a best-case-scenario figure — Ram says that’s with the standard crew cab, 5-foot-7 bed, and 18-inch wheels. Even the entry-level 168 kWh battery pack delivers an estimated 350 miles, which still eclipses the Ford F-150 Lightning’s 320-mile ceiling.
Charging is where the REV really shines. It supports 800-volt DC fast charging at up to 350 kW, meaning you can add roughly 110 miles of range in about 10 minutes at a compatible charger. If you’re coming from a gas truck, that number is going to take some getting used to — but for fleet owners and contractors who were nervous about switching to electric, it should be a genuine game-changer. For daily home charging, a Level 2 EV charger (the REV uses the NACS standard) is the most practical way to start each day with a full battery.
Towing and Hauling Done Right
Ram didn’t compromise on truck fundamentals:
- Maximum towing: 14,000 lbs (with the larger battery and Max Tow Package)
- Payload capacity: Up to 2,700 lbs
- Frunk volume: 131 liters of lockable, drainable front storage
- Bed power: 7.2 kW of exportable power via 120V/240V outlets — enough to run tools, a job site, or a campsite
For those who want to maximize the REV’s power-export capability off-grid, a portable power station paired with the truck’s built-in outlets gives you backup power that goes wherever the job takes you.
The air suspension, which drops the truck 2 inches for easier loading, also has an Auto-Leveling mode that compensates for trailer tongue weight. Ram’s active aerodynamics — including a shuttered grille and underbody panels — also play a role in extending range while you’re on the highway.
Interior: Finally a Different Story
The cabin is where Ram separates itself from the competition. Where some EV trucks feel sparse or overly minimalist, the REV’s interior is genuinely impressive:
- 14.5-inch touchscreen running the new Uconnect 6 system
- 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster
- 10.25-inch passenger screen for co-pilot entertainment and navigation
- Sustainable materials including a leather-free interior option made from recycled ocean plastics
- Executive rear seating with reclining seats, heating/cooling, and a rear screen on higher trims
The cabin is notably quieter than the gas 1500 too — electric powertrains are just inherently calmer at speed.
Trim Levels and Pricing
The 2026 Ram 1500 REV launches in four trims:
- REV: Starting around $58,000 — the workhorse trim
- REV Lone Star: Around $64,000 — adds Texas-market essentials
- REV Tungsten: Around $74,000 — the luxury leader
- REV Ramcharger: A range-extender variant with a V8 gas generator (for those not ready to go fully electric)
Destination charge adds $1,695.
The Competitive Landscape
The REV enters a field that’s gotten more crowded but not necessarily better. The Ford F-150 Lightning remains competent but is range-limited. The Chevrolet Silverado EV has better branding but a rougher rollout. The Tesla Cybertruck is, well, divisive. The Ram’s 500-mile range advantage is substantial, and combined with its interior quality and towing chops, it makes a strong case as the most complete electric truck on paper.
Early Verdict
Ram’s first real swing at an electric truck is impressive. The 500-mile range is the headline, but it’s the combination of genuine capability (towing, payload, charging speed) with an interior that doesn’t feel like a compromise that makes the 1500 REV worth watching. We’ll reserve final judgment until we’ve driven it, but if Ram can deliver on even half of what it’s promising, the electric truck segment just got a lot more interesting.
