Rivian R2 Is Finally Here: Full Pricing, Trims, and a Spring Delivery Target
Rivian pulls the wraps off its more affordable R2 SUV with three trims ranging from $45,000 to $57,990, targeting first deliveries in spring 2026.
Rivian pulled the wraps off its most important vehicle yet on March 12, 2026 — the R2, a mid-size electric SUV that marks the brand’s push into more accessible territory. The R2 lineup spans three trims with pricing from $45,000 to $57,990, and Rivian is aiming for first deliveries in spring 2026.
Three Trims, One Mission
The R2 lineup breaks down as follows:
- R2 Performance Launch Edition: $57,990 — 656 hp, 330 miles EPA est. range, dual-motor AWD, launching spring 2026
- R2 Premium: $53,990 — 450 hp, 330 miles EPA est. range, arriving late 2026
- R2 Standard: $48,490 — smaller battery pack, range TBD, later 2027
- R2 Standard (smaller battery): $45,000 — longest wait, estimated late 2027
Every R2 uses the same 87.9 kWh battery pack — the Performance and Premium both hit 330 miles of EPA-estimated range. The Performance Launch Edition gets a software unlock that bumps it to 656 hp and 609 lb-ft of torque for that extra push.
Platform Architecture: New Hardware, Familiar Bones
The R2 sits on Rivian’s new Rivian Production Vehicle (RPV) platform, a clean-sheet architecture designed for efficiency and scale. Unlike the R1T and R1S which share a quad-motor option, the R2 goes with a simpler dual-motor setup across the board, dropping complexity and cost without sacrificing the on-road experience.
Charging tops out at around 220 kW on DC fast chargers — not class-leading, but competitive. Rivian’s Adventure Network and Waypoint chargers will support the R2, alongside the growing NACS network.
Spring Deliveries: Starting with Performance
Rivian is targeting first R2 deliveries in spring 2026, starting with the Performance Launch Edition trim. The R2 Premium follows later in the year, while the lower-cost Standard trims won’t arrive until 2027. Rivian has set an internal target of 20,000–25,000 R2 units shipped in 2026 — a careful ramp given the plant retooling and global supply chain adjustments required.
Pre-orders aren’t opening until June 2026, which has raised some eyebrows in analyst circles about delivery timelines for non-Launch Edition buyers.
Why the R2 Matters
This is Rivian’s shot at profitability at scale. The R1T and R1S proved the brand can build compelling vehicles — now the R2 has to prove Rivian can build them at a price point that works for mainstream buyers. With 330 miles of range, solid performance numbers, and a sub-$60K starting price for the launch trim, the R2 is genuinely competitive on paper.
The question is whether Rivian can build them fast enough to meet demand.
