Subaru Puts a Price on Its First Real EV: The 2026 Uncharted Starts at $34,995
Subaru of America revealed pricing for the 2026 Uncharted EV on December 9, 2025, with an MSRP of $34,995 and more than 300 miles of estimated range — the brand's most serious entry yet in the electric vehicle segment.
Subaru of America dropped pricing details for the all-new 2026 Uncharted on December 9, 2025, and the numbers are more competitive than many expected. The entry-level Uncharted EV carries an MSRP of $34,995 — the lowest starting price across Subaru’s entire electric lineup and competitive with the field of compact electric crossovers from Hyundai, Kia, and Chevrolet.
Estimated range comes in at more than 300 miles on a single charge for the base model, with the dual-motor Uncharted Sport and GT variants offering 338 horsepower from their all-wheel-drive powertrains. Every Uncharted will come standard with NACS charging compatibility, giving owners access to the Tesla Supercharger network without an adapter.
A Real EV, Finally
Subaru’s first real electric vehicle — the Solterra — arrived in 2023 as a compliance car: functional but uninspiring, with limited range and a price that didn’t reflect the modest specification. The Uncharted is a fundamentally different proposition. It’s built on a new architecture developed specifically for electric vehicles, not adapted from a gas-platform lineage, and the specs suggest Subaru engineers actually wanted to make something competitive rather than merely present.
The 300-mile range figure puts the Uncharted squarely in the conversation with the base Hyundai Ioniq 5 (around 220 miles in its most affordable configuration) and the Kia EV6 Light (232 miles). On range, at least on paper, the Subaru leads that comparison at the base level.
AWD Credibility
Subaru’s identity has always been tied to all-wheel-drive capability, and the Uncharted doesn’t abandon that heritage. Every version is AWD, delivered through dual electric motors on the higher-trim models. The lower-cost single-motor configuration still qualifies as AWD under Subaru’s naming and marketing conventions, though buyers in climates with meaningful winter weather should pay attention to the specific battery and motor configurations when full specs are confirmed.
The Uncharted also comes equipped with Subaru’s EyeSight suite of driver-assistance features as standard, a notable point against some competitors that bundle active safety features into expensive option packages.
Market Context
At $34,995, the Uncharted enters the market at a time when federal EV tax credits are no longer widely available for lease customers or certain income tiers, making the upfront price more consequential than it would have been two years ago. The $7,500 credit environment that shaped Chevy Equinox EV pricing and made certain Ford models more accessible is gone, and Subaru is arriving with an MSRP that doesn’t depend on a subsidy to look reasonable.
Subaru expects the Uncharted to reach U.S. retailers in early 2026. The company has not confirmed specific production volumes, but comments from executives at the July reveal suggested the company was targeting meaningful retail presence rather than a niche compliance play.
