IONIQ 5: The Star
The IONIQ 5 posted global sales of 44,000 units in Q3 2025, making it Hyundai’s best-selling BEV globally and a major contributor to the group’s overall electrified growth. The model’s appeal spans multiple markets — it remains one of the few BEVs in the US under $40,000 that qualifies for the full federal tax credit (after a recent production shift to Hyundai’s Georgia plant).
The IONIQ 5’s success reflects genuine product substance rather than just incentive dependency. The 800V E-GMP architecture enables 235 kW peak DC charging — 10% to 80% in approximately 18 minutes. Range for the Long Range RWD variant is EPA-rated at 303 miles. The boxy design continues to resonate, and the recent interior refresh added a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen and improved ambient lighting.
Hyundai also noted that the IONIQ 5 N — the high-performance variant with 641 hp — is seeing stronger-than-expected demand, particularly in Germany and the US, suggesting a market for genuinely driver-focused EVs beyond Tesla.
Kia and Genesis
Kia posted 152,000 global sales in Q3, with the EV6 and EV9 combined at 28,000 units. The EV6, refreshed for 2025 with the same E-GMP architecture and a new GT-Line trim, has stabilized after a soft 2024. Genesis, Hyundai’s premium brand, continues to struggle outside Korea, with global sales of 52,000 units — modest but growing.
Full-Year Outlook
Hyundai Motor Group maintained its 2025 global sales guidance of 4.2 million units, citing strong demand for electrified products and new model launches in Q4 including an updated Santa Fe and the US-market Kia EV4.
