Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Sets New Nürburgring EV Lap Record
The 2025 Porsche Taycan Turbo GT Weissach Package lapped the Nordschleife in 7:03.55 — a new electric production car record and 17 seconds faster than the previous mark.
Porsche has reclaimed the Nürburgring electric production car lap record with the 2025 Taycan Turbo GT equipped with the Weissach Package, posting a 7:03.55 on the 20.8-km Nordschleife. The time is 17 seconds faster than the previous EV record set by the Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package in 2023.
The Numbers
The Taycan Turbo GT produces 760 hp in standard form, or 1,092 hp with the optional Launch Control overboost — the most powerful road-legal Porsche ever built. The Weissach Package removes the rear seats and adds additional carbon fiber bodywork, reducing weight by approximately 176 lbs compared to the standard Turbo GT.
Key figures:
- 0-100 km/h: 2.3 seconds (with Launch Control)
- Top Speed: 300 km/h (186 mph)
- Battery: 105 kWh (93 kWh usable)
- Weight: ~2,310 kg (Weissach Package)
The lap was completed by Porsche development driver Lars Kern on October 14, 2025, with ambient temperatures around 14°C — cool but not cold. The car was equipped with Pirelli P Zero Corsa tires, the PCCB carbon-ceramic brakes, and the standard 800V architecture that enables 320 kW peak DC charging.
Why This Matters
The Nürburgring Nordschleife is the gold standard for automotive performance validation. A sub-8-minute electric lap was unthinkable five years ago — the Taycan Turbo GT Weissach doesn’t just beat that; it obliterates it by nearly a full minute.
The record also underscores the continued relevance of Porsche’s “everything is a sports car” philosophy in the EV era. The Taycan, always more dynamically capable than its four-door sedan body suggests, has been systematically refined across three generations of updates, with the 2025 model receiving a new rear motor, improved thermal management, and a revised air suspension that was retuned specifically for the track.
Context: The Competition
The Tesla Model S Plaid Track Package previously held the EV lap record at 7:20.65. The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 S E Performance — a hybrid — ran 7:17.56. The Taycan Turbo GT’s 7:03.55 puts it ahead of many dedicated sports cars, hybrid or otherwise.
Porsche will offer the Taycan Turbo GT and Turbo GT Weissach Package in the US starting in late 2025, with pricing expected to start around $230,000.
