Düsseldorf bakery claims to have Germany’s largest fast charging hub

1 min read

German organic baker Roland Schüren is a long-time supporter of the clean-tech revolution (Energiewende in German). The bakery, located at the busy Kreuz Hilden motorway junction near Düsseldorf, features a large EV charging facility and a rooftop photovoltaic installation. It’s a well-known meeting point for EV enthusiasts, who can top up their batteries while enjoying a meal at the on-site café.

Now we learn that the company, in partnership with Tesla and charging network Fastned, has expanded its charging park, creating what it claims is Germany’s largest fast charging hub.

Ladepark Kreuz Hilden includes a Fastned station with 8 charging stalls, offering power levels up to 300 kW, as well as a Tesla Supercharger station with 20 stalls. The Fastned station is powered entirely by solar and wind energy.

“In order to power the exponentially growing number of electric vehicles, we need a lot of big fast charging stations,” said Fastned CEO Michiel Langezaal. “I call upon landowners that share this vision to contact us, so we can join forces and see if we can realise a Fastned station on their site. Together we will build the infrastructure of the future!”
